Fairfield Lions baseball defeats Clay; falls to Peebles and Paint Valley

Playing three games in three days, the Fairfield Lions earned a win on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Clay Panthers, while falling to the Peebles Indians and Paint Valley Bearcats the two previous days.
The Lions’ win on Saturday against Clay saw Fairfield go on the road and win by a 7-1 score in a game where they collected 10 hits and committed four errors. The Panthers of Clay totaled four hits and committed one error.
Three of Fairfield’s hits were off the bat of Zane Collins, who was 3-for-4 with two runs, while Cameron Miller went 2-for-4 for Fairfield.
Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a walk. Ben Miller finished 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk; Van Bennington was 1-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and two walks; and Spencer Hurless went 1-for-3 with a run.
Miller was the winning pitcher for the Lions, pitching seven innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Fairfield scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth, then followed with a four-run fifth inning and two runs in the top of the seventh. Clay scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
After the three games from Thursday through Saturday, the Lions are now 1-4 overall.

On Friday, April 3, the Lions lost a non-conference road game to the Paint Valley Bearcats, 10-2 in Bainbridge.
FHS scored their two runs in the top of the sixth inning. PVHS had a three-run second inning, five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the sixth inning.
In all, the Lions had one hit and three errors, while Paint Valley finished with six hits and one error.
Zane Collins had the Lions’ lone hit, plus he collected two steals. Ben Miller forced a walk. Caleb Rice and Cam Caudill were each hit by a pitch, as Rice scored a run. Also scoring a run was Parker Pence, who also had a walk and a steal.
Anderson Humphreys was charged with the pitching loss, going 4.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs with two strikeouts. Collins pitched 1.2 innings, also allowing two earned runs.

On Thursday, April 2, the Fairfield Lions lost a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to the visiting Peebles Indians 4-3 at Fairfield High School.
Peebles scored one run in the top of the first, then added two more in the top of the third and one final run in the sixth inning. FHS scored their runs with two in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh inning.
Each team had three hits, while PHS committed four errors, and FHS had two errors.
The Lions had two hits from Caleb Rice, who was 2-for-4 with one run. Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-4 with one run. Greyson Abbott scored a run for Fairfield. Cam Caudill was hit by a pitch, and Ben Miller finished with two steals.
Cameron Miller was charged with the pitching loss, going 5.2 innings on the mound with two earned runs off three hits and he totaled 10 strikeouts. Humphreys pitched 1.1 innings, allowing no run and no hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
