Fairfield opens season with loss to Greeneview

Traveling to face the Greeneview Rams to begin their 2026 baseball season, the Fairfield Lions were defeated by the host team by a 15-5 score in a complete seven-inning game, Monday. 

The March 30 non-conference game saw the Lions trail by a 1-0 score after the first inning, but FHS tied the score at 1-1 once the second inning was finished. Greeneview answered with seven runs in the top of the third, but the Lions scored three runs of their own for a 8-4 deficit. 

After a scoreless fourth inning by both teams, the Rams barreled their way with two consecutive three-run innings in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Lions scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth for a 14-5 score. GHS added one final run in the top of the seventh.

Greeneview finished the game with 10 hits, and they committed three errors. Fairfield totaled six hits and committed four errors. 

Six players each had one hit for the Lions, as Caleb Rice was 1-for-4 with one run, while teammate Cameron Miller went 1-for-4. 

Ben Miller finished 1-for-3 with two runs, one walk and his hit was a double. Van Bennington was 1-for-3, Greyson Abbott went 1-for-3 with one run and Weston Baldwin was 1-for-1 with two walks. 

The loss was charged to Anderson Humphreys, who pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts and four walks.

Cameron Miller pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts and three walks. Zane Collins in two innings allowed four earned runs with two strikeouts and one walk.

Next for the Lions is a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference game Tuesday, March 31 against the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 5 p.m. at LCHS.
