In case you weren’t aware, summer has officially arrived.  You may be a bit confused by this fact. Yes, temperatures have certainly been at a level that would make you think that summer had arrived. However, continued rainfall and the lush, green growing conditions are more reminiscent of spring.

    In last week’s column we discussed some of the conditions that affect many seniors that can increase your risk of falling.

Face painting, hot dogs and fellowship are shared each Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Everyone is invited to the "Weenie Wednesday" lunches.  Lunch, fun, music and fellowship will begin about noon at 231 Harry Sauner Road. The lunches will continue each Wednesday during the summer until August 18.

Ed Hughes of Portsmouth will be directing a 12-step workshop on Thursday, July 1 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church at 133 E. Walnut Street.

Ken Knipp, PhD, BCPS, a pharmacist and pharmacy clinical coordinator at Adena Health System, will be the guest speaker at the second meeting of the Adena Heart Failure Group. The group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 5 in the PACCAR Medical Education Center, on the campus of Adena Medical Center, in Chillicothe. Knipp will talk about heart failure medications.

The Pricetown Partners 4-H Club held a meeting on June 15 at the Lynchburg Clay High School from 7-8 p.m.. There were 17 members and 7 guests present.

It is fairly obvious that most farmers and gardeners have grown frustrated with our weather pattern over the past six weeks or so. This area has received an excessive amount of rain since the first of May and hasn’t shown much signs of letting up. I have heard many folks say that they wished it would quit raining.  You have heard the phrase “Be careful what you ask for.”
