Grief Share support
group meets in Greenfield
Grief Share, a support group for anyone who has recently lost a loved
one, will begin a new 13-week series on Thursday, Sept. 22 which will

Peace Lutheran Church of Hillsboro will host a free Financial Management
workshop on September 26. This free workshop will cover general family
budgeting and managing credit cards. Peace Lutheran Church is located at 231

everyone is invited.
OVRDC banquet Sept. 29
The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission’s (OVRDC) annual Full
Commission Appreciation Banquet and Meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 29
at the Scioto County Career Technical Center, located at 951 Vern Riffe
Drive in Lucasville. Registration and social time will be held at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Awards will be presented to outstanding
OVRDC members and other state and regional leaders.
OVRDC Full Commission members have received registration information,
and anyone planning to attend must RSVP by Friday, Sept. 23.

Relay for Life
event at Fling Barn
The second annual Relay for Life Fall Fling will be held at the Fling Barn
on Oct. 1 from 5:30-11 p.m. Come to the Fling Farm for a night of good food
and entertainment to help create a world with more birthdays. Tickets are
$15 in advance, $20 at the door. All proceeds of the event go to support the

The Lynchburg Lions Club will host their monthly pancake and sausage
breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Lynchburg Lions Club/Gun Club
building on Sharpsville Road in Lynchburg. The breakfast will be
served from 8-11 a.m. and will include an all-you-can-eat pancake and
sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits.

Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene will host an early fall gathering on
Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at McCoy Arena, 7541 Overman Road, Hillsboro. Round up your
friends and attend an evening of food, fun and fellowship around the
campfire. Special guest Steve Womack, Cowboys for Christ
evangelist from Noble, Okla., will sing and share the Gospel. Bring a lawn

Leesburg Lions collect
‘Kans for KAMP’
The Leesburg Lions Club is participating in the Lions’ districtwide
project of collecting aluminum cans for recycling. All proceeds will be
given to KAMP Dovetail. A drop-off container will be available at the
Leesburg Flea Market on Main Street in Leesburg the first Saturday of every

Belfast Charge of the UMC
hosts CPR Oct. 7-8
The Belfast Charge of the UMC will host CPR (Christ Provides Renewal)
on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Belfast United
Methodist Church. Dr. Randy Stearns will be the guest speaker on
Friday evening. Dr. Stearns is a former pastor of the Belfast Charge
and is now an assistant to the Bishop. Special music for the evening
will be the New Hope Men's Choir from the New Hope Baptist Church of
Hillsboro. On Saturday evening, Pastor Mick Parks will deliver the
message and Mike Labig will provide music. Everyone is encouraged to

The Hillsboro Area Branch of the American Association of University
Women, in conjunction with WVNU-FM and The Highland County Press, will hold
the annual AAUW Candidates and Issues Forum Monday, Oct. 10 at Southern
State Community College’s Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Hillsboro mayoral candidates Drew Hastings (Republican) and John Levo
(Independent) will be invited to the 2011 forum, as will speakers for and
against the repeal of Ohio Senate Bill 5 and any other candidates in locally
contested races of general interest.

Highland Soil & Water
Conservation District’s
annual meeting Oct. 13
The Highland Soil & Water Conservation District’s 69th annual meeting will
be held on Oct. 13, at the Highland County Training and Employment Center
(Hi-TEC) located at 1575 N. High Street in Hillsboro from 5-7 p.m. The
Highland SWCD will be hosting a social gathering with light refreshments
being served. Various events will be held throughout the evening including
the Supervisor election from 5-6:30 p.m., a silent auction to benefit
conservation programs and the presentation of awards is scheduled to begin
at 6:30 p.m.
Two supervisors will be elected to serve a three-year term. Jeff Boike,
Nathan Brown and Jeff Duncan are the candidates on the ballot. You may vote
on the evening of the annual meeting or by requesting the proper absentee
ballot forms from the Highland SWCD office at (937) 393-1922, ext. 3.

Hospice of Hope
Ohio Valley offers
vacation raffle
Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley has several fundraisers throughout the year
which help provide quality hospice care to patients and families. They will
be raffling a seven-day/six-night vacation to Ellington Plantation in Myrtle
Beach for the week of Nov. 20-27. Tickets are $10 each and only 500 will be
sold. The winning raffle ticket will be awarded on Oct. 28.

Countywide curfew
in effect Oct. 1-31
A countywide curfew will commence Saturday, Oct. 1 for all persons under
the age of 18. The curfew will run through Oct. 31 and require all persons
under the age of 18 to be off the streets and in their homes by 10 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday and midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The curfew does not apply where children are accompanied by parents,
legal guardians or custodians. Exception is also made for children attending
church, school or employment activities. Enforcement will be handled by
all law enforcement agencies, including the sheriff’s department, city or
village police and juvenile probation officers. After consultation with law
enforcement, it is requested that each jurisdiction set beggars night on
Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6-8 p.m.

The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7

Veterans Memorial
The Highland County Commissioners and the VFW are placing a Veterans
Memorial on the Highland County Courthouse lawn. In order to raise the
money, they will put any veteran’s name on a brick for $50. All Highland
County veterans are eligible. The committee will also accept donations. Any
