Hot, humid, and rainy has been the general weather pattern locally over the past couple of weeks. While the heat and moisture are combining for rapid crop development locally, we certainly don’t need the extreme rainfall amounts recorded in northern Kentucky earlier this week. The local crop situation is generally positive as corn looks exceptional, soybeans are a bit uneven but are improving, and hay and pasture growth is better than expected due to the moisture.

La Comedia Trip
    There are still seats available for our Thursday, Sept. 16 trip to Springboro’s famous La Comedia Dinner Theatre and a matinee performance of the hilarious comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”

Five officers of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter attended the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) in Washington, D.C., hosted by the national FFA organization. The conference was held for a week with several workshops to help FFA members become better leaders and to give them ideas of how they can reach out to their communities.

The 16th annual SATH Car and Bike Show at Rocky Fork State Park is changing. On Aug. 1 at the Rocky Fork State Park campgrounds, off of North Shore Drive in Hillsboro, vehicle enthusiasts will have a chance to enter a great show.

Managing aquatic vegetation without chemicals
    Aquatic plants and algae are common to many of Ohio’s ponds and quite often attain abundances that cause problems for owners. Excessive plants and algae can interfere with swimming and fishing, upset the fish community‚s balance, clog pumps if present, and ruin the aesthetic value of the pond. Many pond owners have expressed a desire to manage their pond without the use of chemicals. Also, pending new federal rules may make using herbicides and algaecides in aquatic systems more difficult and expensive. So it seems relevant to consider how a pond’s plant community might be managed without chemicals.

Food Festival by Gordon Foods
    Gordon is our newest food supplier, and they have lots of delicious treats in store.  Admission is just $3, and if you’ve been to our previous food shows, you know you won’t go hungry. Gordon will be offering a variety of items, from appetizers to desserts. As a special treat, there will be live Country Music by the Over the Hill Gang. This event is open to the public, so come one, come all.
