    CLINTON COUNTY – Culvert replacement will require closing State Route 124, west of the Highland/Clinton county line, from 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26.

  • Prosecutor's office completing investigation into McClain 'puncture' incident
    The Highland County Prosecutor's Office is anticipating completing an investigation into whether or not charges will be filed against a Washington C.H. teen in connection the alleged "puncture" incident following a September Washington C.H. High School vs. Greenfield McClain High School football game.

    The Highland County Common Pleas Court has space for additional members of the public to attend the 11:05 a.m. session of the Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday. Anyone desiring to attend must have a ticket to enter.  They can be picked up during regular business hours Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Court is closed from noon until 1:00  p.m.

  • Supreme Court holds local session Wednesday; judge examines courthouse history WATCH THE VIDEO
    When the justices of the Supreme Court of the state of Ohio take the bench on Oct. 19 in the Highland County Court of Common Pleas for a special off-site session, the cases heard will become another chapter in the history of a building that has served the people of Highland County for nearly 180 years.
     Construction of the courthouse began in 1832 and was completed in 1834, and cost a total of $6,666.66.

    Audrey Bolte of Batavia was crowned Miss Ohio USA 2012 on Oct. 15 at the Vern Riffe Center For the Arts in Portsmouth. She will represent Ohio in Miss USA 2012 Pageant.

    House Bill 343 requires drug and alcohol testing for statewide elected officials, legislators, JobsOhio board members and recipients of federal corporate bailout money (Troubled Asset Relief Program). Hillsboro Independent candidate for mayor John Levo announced in his opening comments at the Oct. 10 AAUW Candidates and Issues Forum: "I am willing to take a drug test any time."

  • Highland County Sheriff's Office awarded $27,000 in grant funding
    Sheriff Ron Ward announced the Ohio Department of Public Safety's (ODPS) Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) awarded $27,000 in federal traffic safety funding to the Highland County Sheriff's Office for the federal fiscal year 2012.

  • Board of DD hires interim superintendent
    The Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities has voted to hire an interim superintendent, who will jointly serve the local board, as well as the Fayette County Board of DD. 
    The Highland County Board of DD met in a special session Wednesday evening at the Hills and Dales Training Center in Hillsboro, and voted 4-0 to employ Fred Williams, the current Fayette County Board of DD superintendent.
