Highland County Farm Bureau Farm to Fork Dinner a great success

Highland County Farm Bureau held its first ever Farm to Fork Dinner on Aug. 15 at the home of Tim and Karen Sheeley of Marshall.

The Farm to Fork Program is a dinner on the farm to enhance awareness of agricultural food production by bringing the city to the farm to share a meal consisting entirely of locally grown farm products.

The food was grown and donated by Maple Valley Farms, Jonnie Schrock, Creek Bend Farm, Brown Farms and Gayla Beth Frichzand.

More than 80 area residents were given the opportunity to see the farms’ livestock, all while enjoying fellowship with others over a meal prepared with local meats and vegetables.

The event raised $1,450 that will go towards buying canned goods for local food pantries and investing in the “child hunger ends here” program promoted by country superstar Hunter Hayes. Every canned good that we purchase buys one meal for a child somewhere in the U.S.

Highland County Farm Bureau President Nathan Brown said “They hope to grow the event each year.”
