I see where Tom and I were nominated as Citizens of the Week by Ellen Pennington for taking care of the uptown flowers. We sincerely appreciate the nomination, but we are just a small part of the beautification of the uptown. Tom and I are just the helpers.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Hillsboro Fire Department for their many years of outstanding service to Washington Township residents. I also would like to thank Hillsboro City Council for trying to work on a contract extension for the township’s fire and EMS coverage.

I would like to know whose idea it was to paint over the mural on the theater/firehouse in Lynchburg. It was the most attractive point in town.

It is sad that the firefighters are not getting the respect that they deserve. Someone who will drop everything they are doing and run to save a life or rush to put out a burning building deserves a lot more respect than they are getting.

I know that I live in a very Republican part of Ohio, but it is beyond my understanding how so many citizens of Highland County, who are not multi millionaires can support the Romney-Ryan ticket and Congressional and Senate Republicans.

Larry Bresler, who directs Organize Ohio, said today's system results in too many lawmakers who place political interests about the public's interest. He noted that a review of public records produced by the mapmakers shows no mention of concern for Ohio's citizens. "We went through a mountain of emails and voters were not mentioned. Not once," he said.

I watched Governor Romney's acceptance speech intently. Evidently, more so than did most political commentators because none of them seem to have found fault with a few statements that I found outrageous.

Issue 2 is a legally sound proposal for creating an independent redistricting commission. It is our legal opinion that the function Issue 2 assigns to a panel of Appellate Court judges is limited, proper, and poses no conflict of interest or separation of powers problems under Ohio or Federal law.

These people want us to believe that their wealth trickles down, and pumps up the economy, but aren’t they really just pumping money into tax-free shelters, and then pushing the government to lower their legally paid tax rate even more?
