'Yes' vote encouraged on Issue 14
To the editor:
Dear Highland County citizens,
I am writing this to you with a heavy heart as I have every day. See, we are a foster family. My family is made up of of literally four families. We are a giant puzzle put together by God because that is how he intended it.
There is me (1), my wife and her two daughters (2), my two adopted daughters from the same family (3) and my other two adopted daughters from the same family (4).
Being a part of their journey has been a number of phrases. Mind blowing, emotional, inspirational, sacrificing, struggling, and many more but we make it work. I wouldn't change my life for the world.
I was raised though a divorced family but never really struggled. Watching everything foster kids go through on a daily basis is mesmerizing. They are strong resilient kids trying to figure out their lives one day at a time, where they will sleep one day at a time and who loves them today. How many times have you ever thought about that?
The reason I'm writing this is because on the next voting ballot in November (unless you vote early) is a levy that I pray you can find it in your hearts to vote yes to. It is a $1 million levy for issue 14 to help the kids in the foster care system. It sounds like a lot, but it breaks down like this:
• 4 cents a day, under $1 a month, and less than $12 a year.
This goes to help the kids and only the kids. This is not for raises for employees, the administration does not see any of it, and it is to only support the kids. I beg of you to bring your heart to the polls and show the kids that you stand with them and support them. That is what they need more than anything. Love and support. Please vote "yes" on Issue 14.
Sincerely,
Jason Schaaf
