  • Change of venue sought for Coonrod

    The defense attorneys of a Greenfield man facing capital murder charges in the deaths of his two sons have filed a motion for a change of venue, as Highland County has been so "saturated with the facts underlying this case."
        William J. Mooney and Jerry L. McHenry, of the Ohio Public Defender's Office, filed a motion on behalf of Wesley Coonrod in Highland County Common Pleas Court on April 23 that "respectfully requests that this court order a change of venue for this case in order to ensure that Mr. Coonrod receives a fair trial before a jury untainted by pre-trial publicity."

  • Coonrod pleads not guilty
    A father of two children killed in a Greenfield fire in March was arraigned on capital murder charges April 9 in Highland County Common Pleas Court where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. Wesley Coonrod Sr., 42, appeared in court with his attorneys, Jerry McHenry and William Mooney, of the Ohio Public Defenders Office.

    On April 4, at 3:26 a.m. the Greenfield Police Department executed a search warrant at 401 S. Washington St., Apt. A., Greenfield. The warrant was obtained as a result of a drug investigation. Once inside the residence, officers found an operational methamphetamine lab, with freshly made methamphetamine present.
