  • Bright Elementary to host energy-saving Senior Expo
    On Tuesday, May 17th, 6th graders from Bright Elementary will be passing out free energy-saving items at the Senior Expo Thanks to the Learn and Serve program at Bright Local, the 6th graders will be spreading the word about how to make your homes more energy efficient.
  • Pink Tea for breast cancer research May 14 at SSCC
    The second annual Pink Tea, a fundraising event for breast cancer awareness and research, will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

    Southern State Community College will host the 11th annual Spring Invitational Area Artist Exhibition and Competition May 4-20 at the Appalachian Gateway Center on SSCC’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia.

    The Southern State Community Band will present its annual spring concert 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on SSCC’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
  • SSCC trustees to meet May 25
    The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in Room 149 on the college’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The meeting, which had originally been scheduled for May 11, is open to the public.
  • SSCC's Fayette Campus hosting Cystic Fibrosis walk/run
    A Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides walk/run will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Southern State Community College’s Fayette Campus, 1270 U.S. Route 62 SW, Washington C.H. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and two routes will be available: a 5K (3.1 miles) route and a 10K (6.2 mile) route.

    Shawnee State University will be welcoming Dr. Mary Oling-Sisay, the new vice president for Student Affairs, beginning July 1, who comes to Shawnee with more than 10 years experience in higher education and working with students.

    The Fairfield High School Scholastic Achievement Recognition Program and Reception will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fairfield High School gymnasium.

    The 2011 James P. Chapman Distinguished Service Award was presented to Dr. Roberta Milliken, professor in English and Humanities, at a luncheon on Friday, April 22. The prestigious award recognizes women who have contributed to the advancement of women at Shawnee State University.

    Buckskin Elementary has announced its students who received perfect attendance, the honor roll and were named as Star Students. 
  • Hillsboro Middle School takes Washington D.C. trip
    One hundred and six Hillsboro Middle School 8th graders traveled to Washington D.C. on April 5-8. They took many memorable tours, including the Newseum, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, White House, Smithsonian, Holocaust Museums, Arlington National Cemetery, Korean and Vietnam Memorials, Washington National Cathedral, US Capital, Lincoln Memorial, and the Marine Memorial.
  • HHS announces honor rolls
    Hillsboro High School has released the 3rd quarter honor rolls. To be eligible for the high honor roll, students must have a GPA of 3.5 and above. To be eligible for the honor roll, students must have a GPA of 3.0 - 3.499.
  • MHS show choir to present "Spectacular"
    On Saturday, May 7, the McClain show choir, "A Touch of Class," will present its annual variety show, "Spectacular." This year's theme is "Billboard: Top Ten." The show will feature top 10 hits spanning several decades. The show will include songs and dances that have been featured on the radio for many years.
