SSCC Respiratory Care celebrates graduation
Southern State Community College’s ninth graduating class in the respiratory care program was honored during a recent ceremony on the college’s Fayette Campus in Hillsboro.
Five students successfully completed the program, including graduates Sarah Bradshaw (cum laude; grade point average between 3.5 and 3.74), Sandra Gumbert, Ariel Haitz, Heather Leppla (tentative spring 2015 graduate) and Amanda Warrington.
During the graduation ceremony, scholarships were awarded to Sarah Bradshaw ($200), Amanda Warrington ($200), Frank Pittman ($250) and Mandy Lamrouex ($150), representing both second-year students and graduates of the program.

Recognition was given to the following clinical preceptor award winners: Kristy Hadden of Adena Regional Medical Center, James McManus of Adena Regional Medical Center, Jill Sanders of Clinton Memorial Hospital, Respiratory Care Department of Dayton Children’s Hospital, Tony Taylor of Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Michelle Tibbs of Genesis Respiratory Services, Tammy Hennison of Highland District Hospital, Lindsey Farahay of Highland District Hospital, Respiratory Care Department of Mercy Health Clermont Hospital, Tracy Rexroad of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Gary Thomas of Veterans Affairs Medical Center; as well as clinical instructors Sara Neal and Carie Park of Miami Valley Hospital.
Southern State recently was notified by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) that the college’s program has met or exceeded all currently set thresholds for success on each of the required outcome measures.
“This is an accomplishment of which you, your staff and institution should be proud,” said Dr. Thomas R. Smalling, CoARC Executive Director.
