Fifteen complete SSCC's practical nursing program

The 48th class of Southern State Community College’s practical nursing program was honored during a special recognition ceremony held Dec. 11 on the college’s Central Campus in Hillsboro. Fifteen students were recognized for completion of the college’s one-year certificate program.

The most recent graduates include Alexa Brown of Washington C.H., Rachel Carmody of Centerville, Kayleigh Earley of Wilmington, Laura Elbe of Williamsburg, Rayna Hardwick of Clarksville, Sabra Haynes of Washington C.H., Nathaniel Henderson of Mt. Orab, Heidi Hicks of Hillsboro, Kayla Lawson of Mt. Orab, Jacklyn Leisure of Washington C.H., Carrie McCamish of Wilmington, Michelle Neal of Sabina, Melissa Stevens of Wilmington, Paula Turner of Frankfort, Melanie Wehrmeyer of Hillsboro, and Janessa Williamson of Washington C.H.
The practical nursing program at Southern State is a certificate program combining lecture classes, lab practice and clinical experience designed to prepare the graduate to be eligible to complete the licensure examination (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Students have the option of completing the first-year Practical Nursing Program and, at that point, can choose to stay and complete the second-year Associate Degree Program, or to test for licensure and begin work as an LPN.
