The Long-Term Planning/Facilities Committee of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24 in Room 305 of the college's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

Philip Morris International Management SA (PMIM SA), a subsidiary of Philip Morris International Inc., is delighted to be awarding an scholarship to Marissa Bohl of Winchester.

Through a partnership with Boston Reed College, a national education provider, Southern State Community College is now able to provide healthcare training programs that prepare students for job opportunities in the growing allied health industry. Southern State will offer Boston Reed's healthcare training programs in the areas of dental assistant training and veterinary assistant training.

Initial response to the temporary hotline established by Auditor of State Dave Yost has been strong, with 24 calls the first day, including a number of anonymous reports.

Classes for students attending McClain High School will begin on Thursday, Aug. 16.

Applications are being accepted for those interested in a career in nursing. Wright State University’s (WSU) pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offers courses in Chillicothe at Adena’s PACCAR Medical Education Center. 

A new school year for students of the Lynchburg-Clay Local School District begins on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Shawnee State University will be offering real estate pre-licensing courses from September 11 through November 14.

The drought like conditions that we have dealt with, for most of the growing season, has kept the disease pressure pretty low for most crops, including tobacco. There has been an increase in the disease possibility with the recent rains that most of the Tri-County area has had during the last two weeks of July and the beginning of August.

The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, in Room 303 on the college's North Campus, 1850 Davids Drive, Wilmington. Prior to the full board meeting, the Finance Committee will meet in Room 320 at 5 p.m. on North Campus. Both meetings are open to the public.

Patch of Heaven Preschool and St. Mary Catholic School will be having an Open House on Monday, Aug. 13 from 6-7 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
