On July 17, five members and Mr. and Mrs. DeAtley headed to Washington, D.C. for Washington Leadership Conference. They attended several educational
sessions, saw the amazing monuments and even had a little free time in D.C.

Shawnee State University released preliminary figures announcing a slight reduction in fall enrollment of 1.2 percent or 4,630 students as compared to last fall’s total 4,687 students enrolled.

For anyone wanting a fun, festive night out, St. Mary Catholic School in Hillsboro will hold their second quarter auction and spaghetti dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and the auctions follows at 6:30 p.m.

Two Laurel Oaks senior Computer Service Technician and Networking (CSTN) students – Alex Hinkley, a CSTN senior from Washington Senior High School, and Alan Burns, CSTN senior from Hillsboro – have been working since last school year on designing a website for Leadership Clinton.

Southern State Community College has released its president's and dean's list for academic excellence for Summer Quarter 2012. To be eligible for the president's list, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a minimum of 12 academic credit hours. Those who achieve the dean's list are also full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Prior to the full board meeting, the Finance Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in Room 103. Both meetings are open to the public.

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg-Clay High School building.

The Long-Term Planning/Facilities Committee of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will have a special meeting 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, in Room 305 of the college’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The meeting is open to the public.

Wee Care is located at 133 East Walnut St. and is a ministry of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. The school accepts children ages 3-5 and is licensed by the state of Ohio. 

Bianca Rudnick, a graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School, has been awarded Transylvania University’s Trustee Scholarship.

Several area residents have been named to the Wilmington College Academic Merit List for the 2011 summer semester.

Erin Morrow, an outpatient revenue cycle specialist for Clinton Memorial Hospital, has recently passed both her certified professional coder (CPC) and certified coding specialist (CCS) examinations offered through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

The 45th graduating class of Southern State Community College’s practical nursing program was honored during a special pinning ceremony held August 10 on the college’s Central Campus in Hillsboro. Thirty-nine students were recognized for completion of the college’s one-year certificate program.
