Since this is the last edition of The Highland County Press for the 2010 calendar year, I thought it would be a good time to turn back the clock and look back at some of the top games I had the opportunity to attend this year. My journey back in time starts on Jan. 1 and ends on Dec. 22, 2010.

Scoring in double figures in three quarters wasn't enough for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, as they dropped their sixth game of the season by a score of 60-49 to the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, Saturday afternoon.

There were times Tuesday night at Grandle Gymnasium where emotions were high. A play designed during the final time out was perfected by the Whiteoak Wildcats, Friday night against the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs. The play helped cap off a double-digit second half comeback, giving the Wildcats their first win of the season (a Southern Hills League win), 48-45 at LCHS.

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats kept their Southern Hills League game close for the first two quarters, but an 18-2 run by the Lady Rockets of Fayetteville put the game out of reach, giving WHS their fifth loss of the season by a score of 76-41 Thursday at Whiteoak High School.

Drew Dollich showed little signs of his preseason illness and lit up the Whiteoak defense for 21 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, as Coach Dave Young's Green Devils defeated Tom Wessner's Wildcats, 69-54, Friday, Dec. 3. Prior to the opening tipoff, the North Adams gymnasium paused for a moment of silence in honor of fallen U.S. Marine Luke Scott of Adams County, who lost his life in the war in Afghanistan this week.

After gaining a 20-point first quarter lead, the McClain Lady Tigers began their season like they have many other seasons, with a win. MHS dominated all facets of their game with the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats for a 59-22 win, in the 6th Annual Highland County Girls Basketball Shootout, Friday at Hillsboro High School.

The bench of the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats will have a new leader for the 2010-11 girls basketball season.
