Lady 'Cats fall in Wilkin consolation game

DODSONVILLE — The consolation game of the 2012 Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Tournament didn't go the way the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats had hoped, as they lost to the Clermont Northeastern Lady Rockets, 57-34, Saturday afternoon at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
 
WHS went 0-2 in the two-day tournament at LCHS.
 
CNE led from the very start as they took a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and a lead of 31-16 at halftime as the Lady 'Cats scored 12 points in the second, compared to the 14 by CNE.
 
In the third, WHS posted 12 points but again were outscored as the Lady Rockets added 15 points to their total. The fourth quarter saw CNE outscore WHS, 11-6.
 
For WHS (1-8), Emma Wardlow, a freshman, led with 12 points in the game, as she scored 10 of her points from the free-throw line (10-of-15). She added one rebound, two steals and one assist.

Brittany Luman followed with five points, six rebounds and one steal.
 
Emily Stratton (two rebounds, one block) and Sunnie Lehr (six rebounds, two steals) each scored four points, while Morgan Campbell (six rebounds) and Courtney Cummings (five rebounds) each totaled three points with Campbell making a 3-pointer.
 
Amber Gorman scored two points (along with 10 rebounds), and Clarissa Johnson (eight rebounds) had one point.
 
WHS was 17-of-34 from the free-throw line with a total of 57 rebounds (21 offensive). WHS had 36 turnovers.
 
The loss sends Whiteoak to 1-8 overall. They will next play on Thursday, Jan. 3 at Manchester.
