Wildcats win Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Tournament

The 2012 Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Tournament title left with the Whiteoak Wildcats Saturday evening as they won twice in two days, defeating Paint Valley in the finals by a 74-32 score at Lynchburg-Clay.
The win moves WHS to 4-4 overall on the season, along with senior Luke Taggert being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player following the win against PV.
[[In-content Ad]]WHS led every quarter, scoring no less than 12 points in a given eight-minute period. The Wildcats led 12-9 after the first, then added 20 points to their side of the scoreboard for a halftime advantage of 32-17 as their defense held the PV Bearcats to eight points in the second.
In the third, WHS added 19 points, and for good measure in the final eight minutes, WHS ran away with the game by scoring 23 points for a second-half total of 42 points. PV scored six points in the fourth.
Tournament MVP Taggert led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. The senior made eight baskets, along with three free throws, in the non-league win to wrap up the '12 calendar year.
In total, 11 Wildcat players scored points.
Doc Seip finished with 13 points, followed by Tyler Williams with eight. Brent Davis and Leonard Becraft each scored seven points, while Justin Emery, Gage Carraher and Graham Douglas each totaled five points.
Also scoring for WHS were Nick Wardlow with two points, Blake Trueblood with one and Jason Jones with two.
Emery sank the lone Wildcat 3-pointer.
Along with Taggert being the tournament MVP, Davis was named to the All-Tournament team.
Leading PV in scoring was Michael McCloy with 12 points and Clay Stratton with 10. Stratton made two 3-pointers for PV.
WHS will next play on Jan. 4 when they host Lynchburg-Clay. On Jan. 5, they will host Adena.
