A former Highland County resident has been sentenced to more than 5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and other charges, in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati.
  According to the office of the Clerk of Courts of the United States District Court Southern District of Ohio, David K. Bliss was sentenced to 37 months in prison on one count, to be served consecutively with a sentence already imposed in another case, and 24 months on the remaining count, to be served consecutively to the other cases, for a total of 61 months in prison.

The Hillsboro Police Department is investigating a meth lab found in a truck in the 700 block of North West Street Sunday, Oct. 17.

Unless another agreement can be reached, the state of Ohio will retry Wesley Coonrod, though it has not been determined what charges he will face.

Coonrod was scheduled to be sentenced Friday after a jury found him guilty, early this week, of two counts of child endangering, felonies of the third degree. The jury was hung on five other charges, including two counts of aggravated murder, arson, and two counts of murder.

Judge Rocky Coss granted a motion by the defense to postpone sentencing until the other charges are adjudicated. Coss said that by sentencing Coonrod he felt that could create legal and appeal issues that are not currently present.

The Lynchburg Village Council has passed an ordinance to establish sewer rates and declare an emergency. According to a news release from Lynchburg Mayor Jeremy Shaffer, he presented Ordinance 2010-16 and supportive information at the Oct. 14 council meeting. The council passed the ordinance unanimously, waiving the three-reading rule.

“It’s easy sometimes to talk about if somebody deserves a death sentence,” Dr. Dukes said. “But when you get in there, it becomes a very serious matter when you’re talking about somebody’s life.

Highland County commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Gary Heaton discussed a potential multi-county proposal for the Ohio State University Extension program in Highland County during their Oct. 13 board meeting.

The Hillsboro City Council voted 6-1 to pass an emergency resolution that could potentially facilitate funds toward the restoration of the Bell's Opera House.
 As reported earlier this week by The Highland County Press, the resolution was to authorize the Mayor of the City of Hillsboro to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Development for Discretionary Funds to Provide Funding for stabilization/restoration of Bell’s Opera House and Declare an Emergency."
