Outgoing chairman of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees Kay Ayres presented the gavel to 2012 chair Dr. Vicki Wilson Sunday afternoon, during the board's inaugural meeting of 2012. Wilson thanked Ayres for her service and leadership and honored the former chairman with a plaque in recognition of her service to the college.

One transported in High Street crash

One individual was transported to Highland District Hospital Friday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a concrete planter at the intersection of High Street and Main Street.

According to Sgt. Steve Browder of the Hillsboro Police Department, the driver "suffered a medical emergency" while she was traveling southbound on North High and attempting to make a left turn onto east Main Street.

Community support needed for USMC Cpl. Josh Sams

A southern Ohio Marine whose wife is a 2004 graduate of Hillsboro High School has been seriously injured while on deployment in Afghanistan. U.S. Marine Cpl. Josh Sams, 27, of Wilmington lost both legs above the knees after stepping on an IED (improvised explosive device) while on patrol last week.

Greenfield submits application for railroad grant
