5 acres burned in field fire

Six area departments from two counties were called to respond to a Jackson Township field fire Wednesday afternoon.

David Snider Jr., of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, said that farm equipment is believed to be the cause of the fire that burned approximately five acres.

The department received the call at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday to the 11000 block of Butler Road.

"There were approximately five acres of standing and cut hay," Snider said. "There was a little bit of wind, but ti kept shifting directions. Because of the wind, for the size of the fire, we had to have a lot more people than what is usually necessary (to contain the fire)."

In addition to Hillsboro, the fire departments from Marshall, Brushcreek, and Franklin Township in Locust Grove, as well as two additional Adams County Departments were requested to the scene.

Snider said the fire is not considered suspicious. Crews were able to return to the station after approximately an hour and a half.
