Police locate suspect in Greenfield (UPDATED)
Officers with the Greenfield Police Department and Highland County Sheriff's Office have located a suspect in the Greenfield area, after he allegedly fled from police Tuesday afternoon.
According to Greenfield Police reports, at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving a report of a male walking on the railroad tracks just west of Greenfield, officers located William Moore, 41, of Leesburg and took him into custody. Moore was taken to the Highland County Justice Center, where he is being held for the parole violation, and additional charges stemming from the pursuit will be filed in the near future.
Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said that the suspect fled officers after he was seen in the Greenfield area.
[[In-content Ad]]"(Tuesday afternoon) an officer on patrol observed a vehicle driven by William Moore," Hester said. "The officer was aware that he was wanted by the APA (Adult Parole Authority) and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensured down state Route 138 toward Hillsboro. The vehicle then turned from state Route 138 onto Hudson Road."
The GPD was joined by deputies from the HCSO, Hester said.
"The suspect went back through a cornfield and to the edge of the woods, where the driver jumped out and fled into the woods," Hester said.
Officers from both departments were searching the area in which the suspect was last seen with K9 units.
