It's 'bike week' at KAMP Dovetail WATCH THE VIDEO

With the roar of a hundred engines, the 31st annual KAMP Dovetail jumped into gear Monday, and the roads through Rocky Fork Lake State Park were transformed into Bike Week at Sturgis.

The annual weeklong Kids And Motivated People (KAMP) gives children and young adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to camp out and to participate in summertime activities such as fishing, horseback riding and swimming.

With this year's "Bike Week" theme, area biker groups revved up their Harleys to show their support.

Brian Robinson, an elder with the Southern Hills Chapter of Bikers for Christ, said it was all about showing support for the campers and their families.

"We're here to support KAMP Dovetail, and obviously not only give support to the children that are here, but their families, and let them know that they're just as important a the rest of us, no matter what situation, or disability or disadvantage they may have, and to let them know that God loves them," Robinson said.

The biker groups gave campers a close-up look as they rode their motorcycles through the campground.

In keeping with the theme, the camp staff were decked out in Harley orange, and Dovetail groups had names such as Sturgis, Hogs and Hotrods.

KAMP Director Linda Allen said that the excitement and energy levels on the KAMP's first day were high and hold promise of a great week to come.

"The kids couldn't wait until the bikers got here," Allen said. "They're here, and there's a lot of them, and that makes me happy. It was a hot day. It was a little muggy and it rained, but we're happy, we're all excited, we're going to have a great week and no more rain."
