Two of the three recently appointed members of the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities accepted their respective oaths of office this week. A third appointee, however, did not.

A candidate running for a seat on the Ohio Fourth District Court of Appeals has ties to Highland County, particularly the Greenfield area. 

Steve Newman, a 1972 graduate of McClain High School, said Highland County is still close to him and his family.

The Twelfth District Court of Appeals has affirmed the trial court's ruling denying admittance of an out-of-state attorney, denying a protective order for attorney fee statements, and granting a protective order regarding subpoenas served on Jean Schmidt's congressional office and her counsel.

The Hillsboro City Council passed an emergency resolution Tuesday evening to authorize Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings to enter into a contract with area townships for EMS and fire services at $22 per person for one year.
The city and townships are currently discussing the formation of a joint fire and ambulance district, with the hopes that it would be operational within the coming year. Hastings said Tuesday that he is optimistic about the future of the proposed district, although there still is a lot of work ahead.
"We're not going to have fire problems after this year, one way or another," Hastings said.

The Highland County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating an incident Monday in which items believed to be related to the manufacture of methamphetamine were discovered in the Rocky Fork Lake Area.

Husted is concerned that closing USPS processing facilities in Ohio would result in mail needing to be shipped out of state for processing. This means that some Ohio absentee ballots would be sent out of state for processing twice: once when sent to a voter and once when returned to the board of elections.

The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education held a special meeting Monday, with executive session to discuss the employment of a public employee as the only agenda item. 

The board met at 3 p.m. in the district's central office. Approximately six community members were in attendance. Board president Sam Barnhouse said that he wanted to explain that no action would be taken.
