    Greenfield man charged with illegal assembly after 3 meth labs found in home

    A Greenfield man has been charged with illegal assembly, after law enforcement discovered three working meth labs in a home on Edgewood Avenue Wednesday. 
    Michael A. Roberts, 33, has been charged with the illegal
    assembly of chemicals for the manufacturing of methamphetamine, a felony of the second degree.

    Hastings, Wilkin, Shaffer to attend PUCO, AEP meeting
    Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings will testify at a hearing scheduled Friday by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to review a modified Electric Security Plan submitted by American Electric Power. Highland County commissioners Shane Wilkin and Jeremy Shaffer also will attend the hearing.

    Board of DD votes to extend interim superintendent's contract

     The Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities has voted to extend the contract of interim superintendent Fred Williams, effective through Dec. 31, 2012. 

     The board hired Williams in October, following the contract termination of former former superintendent Chuck Biggert.

    The village of Greenfield is submitting informal surveys to area residents to gauge the interest of annexing some properties so they will have access to village water and sewer services. The village could receive the added benefit of increasing the population to city status again.

    War memorial moved to new location

    The war memorial that previously stood on the south lawn of the Highland County Courthouse has been moved to its new, permanent location, along with monuments commemorating soldiers from the Revolutionary through Afghanistan wars. 

    Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst said that the remodeling of the memorial is nearing completion.

    The Twelfth District Court of Appeals has affirmed a 1995 capital aggravated murder conviction upon application to reopen the appeal, but reversed and remanded the matter for re-sentencing, according to a judgment posted this week by the court.

    Court of appeals remands case to local court for re-sentencing
    Ohio's Fourth District Court of Appeals has remanded a case back to Highland County Common Pleas Court for re-sentencing for a "deficiency" in the sentencing entry, but found that there was "no merit" to the sole assignment of error raised in the appeal.

    Greenfield business owner arrested on kidnapping charge

    A Greenfield business owner has been arrested on a kidnapping charge out of the Portsmouth area. 

    According to Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, Greenfield officers assisted in the arrest of Stephen Drummond, owner of Drummond Diagnostics in Greenfield.

    The Ohio Pork Producers Council Board of Directors recently opened their board meeting doors and welcomed newly appointed Director of Agriculture David Daniels. Daniels was recently named by Gov. John Kasich to lead the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

    Ohio gets a 'D' from Center for Public Integrity
    The Buckeye State received a D grade from the Center for Public Integrity when it comes to transparency, accountability and anti-corruption efforts in government. The center gave eight state governments an “F” grade: Georgia, Maine, Michigan, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia and Wyoming. Not one state received an A grade.
