High school juniors and seniors from area school districts wasted no time in getting a head start on planning for college by spending their last Saturday in August attending the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center’s “Attacking the ACT” workshop presented by Bob Brausch of Tutoring by B2.
McClain High School is hosting three exchange students for the 2016-17 school year, two juniors and one sophomore. Juniors are Jamie Discher and Carmen Vilar Cerdido from Germany and Spain, respectively, and the sophomore exchange student is Dina Piponski from Serbia.
A Hillsboro High School senior has joined an exclusive list of the nation’s top high school students, as Spencer Brown has been named a 2017 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
The morning of Wednesday, Sept. 14, the Bright Elementary sixth-grade class – accompanied by eight teachers – loaded the buses. The destination was Camp Kern for an overnight stay. They were off to what has become the fourth annual trip to BNOT Camp. BNOT stands for Be Nice Out There.
This year, Hillsboro FFA member Journey Abbott showed horses at the county fair in a variety of classes. With her horse Freddy, she was awarded first place in pony horsemanship, pony showmanship, Hunter hack, and equitation over fences.
This year at the Highland County Fair, the Hillsboro FFA chapter had seven members show, and/or sell rabbits. These rabbits have been taken care of by these students to prepare them for showmanship or sale.
The Highland County took place Sept. 3-10. On Monday, Sept. 5, Whitney Seitz exhibited a Boer Market Goat. This year, Whitney was the only Hillsboro FFA member participating in this event. She received first in her weight class.
