Regional English teachers can now earn the credentials needed to teach college-level courses through Shawnee State University’s new, fully online master of arts in composition and rhetoric.

The first-place finisher was seventh-grader Lyla Chamblin. The second-place finisher was sixth-grader Grayson Jones. The third-place finisher was seventh-grader Kyleigh Shoemaker.

Since its creation in 2015, CCP has become increasingly popular with Ohio students and families. Today, more than 76,000 students participate in it every year and get a jump-start on college and life. In fact, in 2020, participating students earned an average of 14 college credits – that’s nearly five courses – allowing them to enter college with nearly an entire semester already completed. The savings? Approximately $155 million for Ohio families.

Shawnee State University’s community-service based club, Circle K International, recently hosted a coat drive on campus to collect winter items for students, including coats, sweaters, jackets and flannels.

When Shawnee State University was a community college, Susan Warsaw started as an assistant to President Frank Taylor. As she worked in the part-time role and saw the community college transition into a four-year institution, she realized there was not a development office and saw the need for formal fundraising efforts to be established within the university.

On Jan. 11, many members of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter took the Ag Biotechnology Online CDE test. Ag Biotechnology focuses on the scientific aspects as well as techniques that are used in agriculture.
