The Fairfield FFA recently had 27 members volunteer for the Village of Leesburg Cleanup Day, held April 14.

The Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association has released its All-Southeast District baseball team, with 24 players and one coach from Highland County earning honors this spring.

Eight Highland County track and field athletes are set to compete at the 2023 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, located on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.

A total of eight Highland County athletes will be participating at the 2023 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships June 2-3 following their performances at regionals in Division II and Division III this past weekend.

The Fairfield Lions and South Webster Jeeps played even for two innings in a scoreless game, but the Jeeps scored three runs in the third, and as the innings ticked away, that ended up being enough to defeat the Lions in the Division IV SE District Finals, with Fairfield falling to South Webster by a 4-2 score.

Track and field athletes from Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield and Whiteoak competed in the Division III district meet at Nelsonville-York May 17 and 19, as the Fairfield Lady Lions team led the way for Highland County with a third-place finish.

The OHSAA recently held district board elections in May, and Tim Cook, the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Western Brown High School, was reelected to a new six-year term beginning Aug. 1.

The Fairfield Lions entered the bottom of the sixth inning of their 2023 Division IV District Semifinal game with a one-run lead against the Waterford Wildcats. Once the inning was finished, the Lions built a six-run lead, and they eventually won by five runs as they defeated the Wildcats, 9-4 Saturday at VA Memorial Stadium, moving to the district finals for a second straight season.

The resiliency of the Cumberlands Patriots softball team was on display once again this season. UC was down 1-0 in the seventh inning with two strikes on the batter twice before tying it up. The team then came through in the 10th inning to win 4-1, advancing them to the NAIA World Series for the first time in program history.
