Fairfield volleyball to play in first district final in program history

The Fairfield Lady Lions earned a big Division VI Southeast District Semifinal win Wednesday evening by defeating the Eastern (Beaver) Eagles in three straight sets at Wellston High school.

Eastern lands the season at 17-6 overall, while Fairfield improves to 18-6 overall.

The win marks the first time Fairfield has won in the district semifinal round, and now the Lady Lions will be playing in a district final game on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as they’ll be facing the No. 2 seeded Nelsonville-York Buckeyes at Wellston High School.

Also on Wednesday, Fairfield senior Jobey Hattan earned her 1,000th career kill for a new school record.

Scores in Fairfield’s victory over Eastern Beaver were 28-26, 25-23 and 25-14.

On Wednesday in the other district semifinal game, Nelsonville-York defeated Valley in three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-19. With the win, NYHS improved to 21-2 overall.
