Fairfield Lady Lions sweep Peebles to move to district semifinals; Whiteoak season ends

The Fairfield Lady Lions are moving to the Division VI District Semifinals, winning their quarterfinal game against the Peebles Lady Indians in three straight sets.

The tournament win Monday at Grandle Gymnasium in Leesburg saw the No. 6 seeded Lady Lions dominate the No. 11 Peebles Lady Indians by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-16.

Fairfield, who were the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division II champions, defeated Peebles in the regular season in three sets on Sept. 24, also at FHS.

On Monday, Fairfield totaled 49 digs, 43 kills, 38 assists, 13 aces and two blocks.

FHS senior Kelsey Clark ended the game with 34 assists, 11 digs, six kills, four aces and one block.

Also for Fairfield, senior Mackenzie Anderson totaled 13 digs, six kills and one assist.

Fairfield senior McKinley Cox had totals that included six kills, three digs, two aces, one assist and one block.

Jobey Hattan, also an FHS senior, had 18 kills, nine digs, four aces and two assists.

Sophomore Alyssa Bales totaled one ace and three digs for Fairfield.

Fellow sophomore Remi Moon, who earned her 500th career dig in the win, totaled nine kills, nine digs and two aces.

FHS freshman Jorja May had one kill and one dig.

The win improves Fairfield to 17-6 overall. Peebles ends their season at 9-14 overall.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to play in the district semifinals Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Wellston High School against the No. 3 seeded Eastern (Beaver) team at around 7:45 p.m., as they are the second game of the evening.

The first game of the district semifinal at WHS that night (Oct. 23) will be No. 2 Nelsonville-York vs. No. 10 Valley at 6 p.m.

On Monday night in the Division VII SE District Quarterfinals, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost to the No. 3 seeded Eastern (Reedsville) team in three straight sets at Eastern High School.

WHS, the No. 14 seed, lost to the No, 3 seeded Lady Eagles by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-10.

Whiteoak ends their season at 2-21 overall.

Seniors for Whiteoak are: Elly McMullen, Kylee Hamm, Georgia Neuhaus, Madison Schum and Addison Roberts.

Hamm also recorded her 500th career dig in the game.
