The Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team won their Division II SE District (District I) championship, while the Hillsboro Indians boys placed fourth in their Division II, District II meet to reach the regional tournament next weekend.

The Fairfield Lady Lions girls soccer team had their season ended on Saturday in a 6-0 loss to the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers in their Division III SE District Sectional Final.

The Fairfield boys cross country team placed first at the Southeast District Cross-Country Championships Saturday at the University of Rio Grande.

In their final road game of the season the McClain Tigers fell to the Greenville Green Wave 35-19 Friday night in a Week 9 non-league contest at Greenville High School.

The first half went pretty well for the Hillsboro Indians. They scored 14 points, stood up for their quarterback and were close to the Miami Trace Panthers on the scoreboard. Then the second half began, and it was all over after that … as the Panthers took advantage of Indian turnovers for a 53-14 win Friday night at Richards Memorial Field.

On Dec. 8, 1987, Hillsboro overcame an outstanding 25-point performance by big Steve Florence of Lynchburg when six Indian players scored at least eight points and the Indians took a 68-62 win over the Mustangs.

If anyone, and I mean anyone claims to be a fan of the sport of soccer, especially high school soccer, and they have the means to attend the event … well, maybe they should make or change their plans to be at McClain Field on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. to watch the Hillsboro Indians and McClain Tigers play for the third time this season in boys soccer.

The third time around was the "charm" for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Thursday night, winning a very close five-game match against Highland County rival Fairfield for a sectional title.
