New-look Patriots gain win over OU-C

HILLSBORO — With four new players added to their roster, the Southern State Patriots earned their ninth win of the season, defeating Ohio University-Chillicothe 89-78 Tuesday at the Patriot Center in Hillsboro.
The win was the second straight for the Patriots as they defeated the Wilmington College JV team 100-99 in double overtime on Sunday, Jan. 8 at WC.
In their win against OU-C, the Patriots (9-9) led 45-39 at the half and outscored their opponent in the second half at 44-39.
SSCC had four players finish in double figures with Tyler Knabb leading the Patriots with 19 points. Knabb, a graduate of Eastern Brown, sank three 3-pointers, along with four two-point field goals and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
North Adams grad Kraig Unger finished with 15 points for SSCC. Unger had five two-point buckets with one 3-pointer, along with being 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
EB graduate Taylor Little, who recently joined the SSCC squad, scored 14 points, with 10 of his points coming in the second half.
Also scoring in double figures was Joe Michael (Whiteoak) for the Patriots. Michael, another recent member of the new-look SSCC team, finished with 10 points. Eight of Michael's 10 points came in the second half.
Also scoring points for SSCC were: Brandon Stace (Marion, Ind.) with six points, Rodney Peters (Wayne) with four points, Curt Wesp (Glen Este) with six points, Blake Blevins (Manchester) with six points and Tyler Jimison (North Adams) with nine points.
Hillsboro graduate Emanuel Turner scored eight points for OU-C.
Leading all scorers was Zane Trace graduate Cody Chenault with 29 points.[[In-content Ad]]
From the free-throw line, SSCC was 13-of-21 (62 percent), and OU-C was 7-of-10 (70 percent).
SSCC is scheduled to play again on Thursday, Jan. 12 when they host University of Cincinnati-Clermont at 7:30 p.m.
