    The Southern State Community College Theatre Department will hold auditions for the upcoming fall production of “The Elephant Man” 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. Auditions are open to both students and the public. The play will take the stage Nov. 13-15.

Under the direction of John Glaze, the singers welcome participation from college students as well as community members. The chorus performs concerts throughout the academic year, presenting holiday music, light classics, show tunes and more.

    Descendants of Lewis Gilmore and Stella Vance Mercer met on June 28 the Fairfield Local School for their annual family reunion, with 146 in attendance.
  • Nature sanctuary offers free weekend passes
    The Highlands Nature Sanctuary, largest of 12 southern Ohio nature preserves managed by the Arc of Appalachia Preserve System, will be offering one free pass for each child accompanied by a paying guardian on weekends throughout September and October. The free child pass is available to all families living in the five county Arc of Appalachia region of Highland, Ross, Pike, Adams, and Scioto counties.
