  • Area family participates in Autism Speaks
    A Sabina area family is asking for community support to bring awareness and to help raise funds in the fight against autism.
    Tony, Titan, Tate, Coleen and Brandi Thompson will be walking in Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism fundraising event May 22 at Coney Island in Cincinnati.
  • Cabin Fever Arts Festival rescheduled for March 20
    The annual Cabin Fever Arts Festival, originally set for late February, was postponed due to inclement weather. This year’s event will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Southern State’s Appalachian Gateway Center, 12681 U.S. 62, Fincastle, Ohio. There will be food, live music, workshops, displays and 35 artisan booths.

    Tom and Sue Knoche (nee Doss) will celebrate 50 years of marriage on March 17, 2010. In honor of this memorable occasion, their children and grandchildren will host an open house from 2 – 4 p.m. March 20, 2010, at the Church of the Nazarene in Sardinia.

    Brown County General Hospital's Dr. Nathan Long, Medical Director for the BCGH Diagnostic Imaging Department, along with Certified Mammography Technicians Karen Adkins, Lisa Marino, Connie Lay, Lora Smith and Lana Ward, joined Darlene Flannery, Director of Diagnostic Imaging in turning over a check for over $100 to Jenny Cahall of the Susan Komen Foundation in support of the fight against breast cancer.

    Profile of older Americans
        About 3.7 million elderly persons were below the poverty level in 2008, according to the Profile of Older Americans: 2009, a new report from the U.S. Administration on Aging. Social Security constituted 90 percent or more of the income received by 35 percent of all beneficiaries. Other highlights include: More than one in eight of the U.S. population is age 65 and older, and the age 85 and older population is projected to increase by 36 percent, from 4.2 million in 2000 to 5.7 million in 2010, and then to 6.6 million in 2020 – a 15- percent increase for that decade.
