Highland County Altrusa
presents ‘ALTRUSAPOLOOZA’
on May 7 at old lumberyard

   ALTRUSAPOLOOZA, a fund-raising yard sale for the Highland County
Altrusa, will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the former
Highland Enterprise lumberyard on West Main Street in Hillsboro.
   There will be unique treasures, classy clothes, jewelry, purses, shoes,
furniture, books, toys, collectibles and much, much more quality
merchandise. In addition, local crafters will have displays during the

SATH Golf Outing May 2
Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped (SATH) will host the 19th
Annual Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, May 2 at Snow Hill Country
Club in Wilmington. John Holt of the Hillsboro Ponderosa Steakhouse
and Gary Riesenberg of Hole In One Challenge are proud to co-sponsor
this year's event.

The tournament will consist of 30 foursomes and one celebrity on each
team. The cost will be $200 per player or $800 per team. Individual
and team sponsors are welcome. The first 30 teams or 120 players to
submit the entry fee to SATH will play in the tournament. Each team
will draw for their Celebrity Player at 9 a.m. the morning of the
tournament.
Prizes will be given for the top three place teams. A "hole in one"
car will be sponsored by Bush Auto Place. Lunch will be served, and
Pepsi will provide drinks for the day. The Sports Memorabilia Auction
and autograph session will take place in the afternoon after the
tournament.

The shotgun start for the tournament is set for 10 a.m. Interested

OVRDC county caucus
   The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission’s Second Round Highland
County Caucus meeting will be held Wednesday, April 27 at 11
a.m. at the commissioners office of the Administration Building, 114
Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro.
   The primary purpose of this meeting will be to discuss and review the
county’s existing and new projects in terms of whether they address priority
development needs and then
rank those projects eligible for Appalachian Regional Commission funding.
   Identification of potential economic development administration projects
will also occur.

Leesburg American Legion
Post hosts Easter egg hunt

   Leesburg American Legion Post 568 will hold its annual Easter egg hunt
and Easter basket giveaway Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. in Highland at the

Hillsboro Christian Academy
presents ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

   Hillsboro Christian Academy presents “Arsenic and Old Lace” on Friday,
April 29, with a matinee at 10 a.m. and an evening performance at 6:30 p.m.
   Tickets are $5 for the matinee and $10 for the evening show.

Oddfellows Easter egg hunt
   The Oddfellows Easter egg hunt and fundraiser will be held 2-4 p.m.
April 23 at 2158 state Route 73 in Belfast, with the egg hunt beginning at 2
p.m. Ten special eggs will have gold dollars inside, and there will be at
least 35 dozen eggs to hunt. There will also be food, games, prizes, and

Wee Care open house

   Wee Care will host an open house on Thursday, April 28 from 6-7:30 p.m.
for the 2011-12 school year. Bring your preschool child, meet the teachers
and other preschool families and enjoy refreshments.
    Wee Care Christian Preschool, a ministry of the First United Methodist
Church, is located at 133 East Walnut St. The school promotes the Biblical
values of honesty, fairness, courtesy, and respect for God, self, and
others.
   The school accepts children from 3-5 years old. Staff members are
licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and have been
preparing area students for kindergarten for 33 years. For more information,

Board of Realtors
bowling tournament

   The Highland County Board of Realtors will be hosting a     bowling
tournament on Wednesday, April 27 from noon – 5 p.m. at Alley 21.
   Get a team of four co-workers and friends to compete for some great
prizes. Cash prizes are available for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.

HHS After Prom
seeks contributions

   The Hillsboro High School After Prom Committee is seeking monetary
donations, prize donations, food donations and volunteers for the 2011 event
that will take place from midnight to 4:30 a.m. immediately following the
prom on Saturday, April 30.

Memorial crosses for
BLOOM available

   You still have time to order memorial crosses from the B.L.O.O.M.
(Beautifying Lynchburg Our Only Mission) organization. The crosses will be
displayed in the park in the center of Lynchburg and/or at the Lynchburg
Historical Society at 440 North Main Street.
   The cost is $5 per cross. Please make checks payable to BLOOM and send

Funds sought for
Veterans Memorial

   The Highland County Commissioners and the VFW are placing a Veterans
Memorial on the Highland County Courthouse lawn. The cost of the memorial is
$50,000. In order to raise the money, they will put any veteran’s name on a
brick for $50. All Highland County veterans are eligible. The committee will
also accept donations. Any veteran who wants to buy a brick may contact the
VFW at 393-0211 or call 393-9638.

Satch Fittro Memorial
Golf Outing May 7

   The first annual Satch Fittro Memorial Golf Outing will be held
Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m. at the Whiteoak Golf Course. The cost is $260 per
team with a shotgun start. Proceeds go to the Lynchburg-Clay Athletic
Department in memory of Satch Fittro. Lunch will be served following the
outing. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, longest putt and closest
to the pin. Golf poker and split the pot will also be played. For more

Sunnyside Church of Christ
   The Sunnyside Church of Christ invites the public to visit its worship
service. The Bible study and worship service are at the Grange Building of
the Highland County Fairgrounds. The Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m.
Sundays. The worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Spring concerts at The Barn
   Southern Ohio’s concert showplace, The Fling Barn, welcomes two popular
performers to usher in The Barn’s 2011 spring concert series. On April 23,
David Rhodes Brown returns to The Barn, and on May 12, the Kentucky
Headhunters perform at the Folsom events center.
   Tickets are $49 per person and this includes admission to both concerts.

American Legion Golf Outing

The American Legion Golf Outing will be held Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. at
the Hillsboro Elks at 8 a.m. Tee times can be accommodated. The cost is $200
per team and $50 for hole sponsors. There will be prizes and food. Proceeds
will benefit the "boys of summer," the American Legion Post 129 baseball

Hillsboro Christian Academy's
Sunday lunch May 1

   Hillsboro Christian Academy's Sunday lunch will be held May 1 from 11:30
a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The menu is a fish fry, including fish, fries, cole slaw,
dessert, and drinks. The meal will be served at the Hillsboro Church of the
Nazarene Annex, located at 8230 U.S. 50 east, Hillsboro. Carryout is also

Hillsboro Christian Academy presents "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Colony
Theater In Hillsboro. There will be two performances: a Friday, April 29

Bass tournament April 23
The Fayette County Bassmasters Open Buddy Buss Tournament will be held
Saturday, April 23 at Rocky Fork Lake East Shore Ramp from 7 a.m. until 3
p.m. The registration will be held from 5-6:30 a.m., with boat inspection at

Open Door meal April 30

   The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield Methodist Church
on Saturday, April 30. Serving will be from 4-5:30 p.m. The menu is ham,
hash brown casserole, green beans, fruit salad. Everyone is welcome.

Lynchburg community events
   On Saturday, May 16, Lynchburg will begin its annual Clean Up/Green Up
event. Volunteers will be walking through the village picking up litter, and
making the town a cleaner place. Volunteers will meet at the Old School Park
at 10 a.m. All trashbags, plastic gloves, bottles of water will be provided.
Just wear your comfortable shoes and come on out and enjoy the day. For the
Green Up portion, we are meeting at the Old School Park at 10 a.m. on May
14. We will have flowers, several shrubs, and some trees to plant throughout
the town, and in our parks. Both days' events are made possible by a grant
from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recylcling and
Litter Prevention, and by all of our great residents who value the village
