    State taxes, state spending and state parks

    This family passed us on the downhill side of Route 374, on a road not intended for pedestrian traffic. At Fairview Road, the brake lights came on and this full-sized, dual cab pickup began backing up this narrow hillside highway. Surely, they are not taking pity on us, are they? Yup. They're taking pity on us. Maybe it was a mirage.

    Let there be no doubt, he was part of America's Greatest Generation. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a Hall of Fame mink trapper, an independent business owner, an author and a first-class gentleman. Godspeed, W. Clyde Pidcock.

    A failure to communicate from the box
    Any man fighting in the building spends a night in the box. First bell's at five minutes of eight when you will get in your bunk. Last bell is at eight. Any man not in his bunk at eight spends the night in the box. Any man caught smoking in bed spends a night in the box....

    Hillsboro's James M. Davis served with elite, top-secret force
    Sgt. Davis, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davis of Hillsboro and later of Otway in Scioto County, was inducted into military service from Highland County in May 1943 and James Davis’ World War II enlistment record confirms he enlisted in Cincinnati on May 8, 1943.
