Highland County just elected a Republican sheriff on Nov. 4. Three weeks later, the new Republican sheriff has a Democrat judge perform the swearing-in ceremony. What are the political chances of this happening on a regular basis? Slim and none – and Slim’s out of town. Not only is this a testament to Sheriff Barrera’s self-confidence, it says something about Judge Coss’ mettle, too.

As someone who was (but no longer is) a registered Republican for more years than Cliff Rosenberger has been alive, I can assure you that the questions raised by Mr. Zawistowski deserve answers from elected officials. I can further assure you that no answers will be forthcoming. Trust me.
