  • Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte to attend Festival of the Bells

    Miss USA second runner-up Audrey Bolte, who recently represented Ohio in the national pageant, will be a featured guest at the 2012 Festival of the Bells.
     
    Bolte is the daughter of former Highland County residents Bill Bolte and Shelly (Johns) Bolte. Her aunt, Mary Bolte Stanforth, is the administrator of St. Mary's Catholic School in Hillsboro and assisted festival chairman Michael Bradford in arranging for the beauty queen to come back to Highland County.

    In order to help give taxpayers an up close and personal look at how their tax dollars are being managed, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office has opened its doors to allow area residents to take a look behind the walls of the Highland County Justice Center.

        Beginning in May with a group of 15 Highland County residents, Jail Administrator Chris Lengefeld began taking tour groups of civilians through the jail, with the intent to educate taxpayers on how the Justice Center is run, and to change some perceptions on what life is like “on the inside.”

    A Hillsboro man who was indicted on 14 counts of forgery has been sentenced to serve more than four years in prison.

    Three out-of-state hikers who became disoriented and lost while exploring a trail on Paint Creek State Park Tuesday evening were found and removed from the woods without injury.
    The Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District was dispatched to the area at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Tuesday.

    Hunters wanting to participate in Ohio's fall controlled deer and waterfowl hunts have until July 31 to submit permit applications for a random drawing. These special hunts are held on selected public areas to provide additional hunting opportunities for Ohio’s hunting enthusiasts.
