Kasichs issue statement on Ohio's selection to participate in National Fitness Challenge
On Monday, Governor John R. Kasich and Ohio First Lady Karen W. Kasich issued the following statements in response to the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Council’s selection of Ohio for a campaign to recognize elementary and middle schools for demonstrating new and innovative ways of introducing physical activity and wellness into their curriculum.
“I am excited to have Ohio schools compete in the National Fitness Campaign and begin seeking new ways they can help improve student wellness,” Gov. Kasich said. “For many years, Jake Steinfield has been a national leader in promoting exercise and physical fitness, and his work to help our most vulnerable students get more active is a fine example of his commitment.

“My wife, Karen, has long shared that commitment to fitness and student wellness, and I’m excited she has offered her help to this effort.”
First Lady Kasich issued the following statement:
”The National Fitness Champion campaign, with its emphasis on the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices, will encourage young Ohioans to take a hands-on role in our fight to reduce the toll of childhood obesity.
“While three high-scoring schools will each take the top prize of a state-of-the-art fitness center, all schools that participate will benefit as they explore new, innovative ways to improve student health and wellness. Given the use and positive feedback from my ‘Time for 10!’ fitness videos, I expect there will be tremendous interest in this challenge.”
