Highland County Firefighters receive donation from Buckeye Ambulance

Marshall Fire Department hosted the March meeting of the Highland County Firefighters Association (HCFFA). During this meeting, they were recipients of a donation presented by Dereck Pristas, President of Buckeye Ambulance, an Ambulance Service company based in Dayton Ohio providing premier patient care to the Highland County area.

The HCFFA will use this donation to provide insurance coverage for the Association and its activities for the upcoming year.

Jeremy Cannon, Association President and member of the Highland North Joint Fire and Ambulance District, along with the other officers and members of the HCFFA accepted the donation from Pristas and stated that the association was very grateful for this donation which will help to pay the insurance expense, enabling the association to use proceeds from their fundraising efforts to go toward training of member departments, and to provide community outreach programs.

After the donation and business meeting, Jim Lyle, a NIMS (National Incident Management System) instruction for the Ohio Fire Academy led a training session on the subject of the Incident Command System.

Member departments in attendance included: host Marshall Fire Department, Paint Creek Joint Ambulance and Fire District, Highland North Joint Fire and Ambulance District, Southern Highland Joint Fire District, Brushcreek Fire Department, and the Highland County Sheriffs Department.

The HCFFA will be hosting the 2016 Southern Ohio EMS Conference this Saturday March 12th at the Hillsboro High School. With sessions led by instructors from Premier Health Care Flight, MedFlight, UC Health Air Care & Mobile Care, and Kettering Health Network. Additional sponsors include Buckeye Ambulance and Ambulance Billing Network.

This all-day conference is free to all are EMS personnel and is one of many training opportunities during the year provided by the HCFFA to its members at no cost.

Scott Miller, Association Training Coordinator, stated that throughout the day those in the area may see several medical helicopters landing at the high school, along with ambulances of area departments. This is a part of the training activities of the day, and that there is not an emergency situation at the school.
