  • Protests expected for State of the State
    Public-sector union workers are expected to continue their ongoing protests in Columbus today during Ohio Gov. John Kasich's State of the State address. The governor is set to deliver his first major address at noon today.
  • Appeals court upholds sentencing on murder conviction
    The Twelfth District Court of Appeals has affirmed the decision of the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas resentencing a Bloomingburg, Ohio man to a total of 38 years in prison for aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and attempted rape.
  • Rosenberger to host town hall meetings; encourages discussion on SB 5
    CLARKSVILLE - Ohio 86th District Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) announced Monday that he will be hosting in-district town hall meetings throughout the month of March. These events are open forums, and the public is welcome to attend with any questions or concerns.
     "If anyone wants to discuss Senate Bill 5 I would be happy to discuss it," Rosenberger said.
  • Highland County Pork Producers annual banquet March 24
    The annual banquet of the Highland County Pork Producers will be held on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Ponderosa Banquet Center in Hillsboro.
  • Rosenberger pursues legislation to protect custody rights of military personnel
    House Bill 121 states that no permanent orders altering existing custody arrangements should be entered while the custodial parent is unavailable due to military service. The custody order that was in place before the absence of a military parent should be reinstated within a set time upon the return of the military parent, provided that reinstating said custody would not damage the best interests of the child.
  • Spring ushers in wildfire season; outdoor debris burning prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during March, April and May
    Ohio law states that outdoor debris burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during March, April and May. Burning is limited in the spring due to the abundance of dry fuel on the ground. Spring breezes can make a seemingly safe burn quite hazardous.
  • Ohio senator backs off Hitler, Stalin comments
    Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat U.S. senator from Ohio, is backing off comments in which he invoked Hitler and Stalin in the ongoing debate over collective bargaining.
  • Ohio's jobless rate at 9.4 percent
    Ohio's unemployment rate was 9.4 percent in January, down from the revised 9.5 percent in December, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 31,900 over the month, from the revised 5,034,200 in December to 5,066,100 in January.
  • Sheriff's office investigates alleged shooting

    The Clinton Council Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged shooting in the area of Bernard Road in New Vienna Friday. 

    According to Col. Brian Prickett of the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, "We received a call of a home invasion and the subject reported that he had been shot as a result of a struggle.

  • Rosenberger announces passage of regulatory reform legislation
    State Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) has announced the passage of Senate Bill 2 from the Ohio House of Representatives by a vote of 81-14.
  • Airpark receives $294,000 federal grant
    WASHINGTON - Congressman Mike Turner hailed the announcement of a $294,000 grant to the Clinton County Port Authority of Wilmington, Ohio to develop a marketing redevelopment and re-use plan for the former DHL Airpark.
  • Hillsboro council meets in executive session with county commissioner
    The Hillsboro City Council met in executive session for approximately one hour with the president of the Highland County Board of Commissioners Thursday night to discuss security and property.
     All council members were present during the special meeting called by council president Lee Koogler except for David Shoemaker, who is out of town, and his absence was excused.
  • SSCC committee weighs options on pending state cuts
    The finance committee of The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees met Wednesday to discuss the college's budget in response to pending state funding cuts.
      The meeting was held at Alley 21 in Hillsboro and the committee which includes board members Vickie Wilson, Paul Hall and Michelle Cimis, was joined by board chair Kay Ayres, SSCC President Kevin Boys and SSCC Vice President of Business and Finance Jim Buck.
  • Greenfield council considers litigation
    The Greenfield City Council met for approximately 30 minutes in executive session during their regular meeting Tuesday to discuss "pending or imminent litigation."
     No action was taken relating to the executive session following a vote to enter back into regular session.
  • Senate Bill 5 passes 17-16, moves to House
    Senate Bill 5, the controversial collective bargaining reform bill, passed during a vote Wednesday, 17-16. The Bill will now move to the Ohio House.
      Sen. Shannon Jones  (R-Springboro) introduced Senate Bill 5, which has the support of Gov. John Kasich and would eliminate collective bargaining for certain state employees - including police officers, firefighters and teachers, among others - and base future pay rates and increases on merit.
