Fire district approves service fee; Rosenberger tours Greenfield

The Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS District will begin charging $300 per run in January for calls for service outside the district a board member reported to the Greenfield Village Council this week.

SSCC approves $14 million Mt. Orab expansion; option on donation of property in Adams County WATCH THE VIDEO

In a divided vote, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees approved a $3.25 million contract to purchase 63 acres to construct a $14 million Brown County campus and unanimously accepted an option for a donation agreement for 19 acres of property for an Adams County campus. However, the board moved forward to approve funding for the Brown County project, while Adams County is still under consideration.

Southern State eyes new campus locations

Southern State Community College has moved forward on plans to expand the college’s services by pursuing land acquisition in Adams and Brown counties. The college’s Board of Trustees approved two resolutions during their Nov. 2 regular meeting — to accept a donation of land in Adams County, and to approve a contract to purchase land in Brown County.

Court denies motion to sever in corrupt activities case

Judge Rocky Coss denied a defendant's motion to sever in an engaging in a pattern of corrupt activities case and said that a new attorney will have to be appointed for a co-defendant in the case because the number of defendants indicted has exhausted the local defense attorney pool.

ODJFS pursues criminal prosecution against anyone who flagrantly commits fraud. Those found guilty of fraud face probation or jail time, must repay the improperly obtained funds with interest, and may have future unemployment benefits withheld.

Conference to examine transitional reentry for Highland County offenders

Through a collaborative effort, the Highland County Office of Reentry Services, Turning Point Applied Learning Center, and FRS Counseling will be hosting a conference Friday at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro that will examine the components and agencies that go into making a successful transition for offenders back into the community.

State: Court did not abuse its discretion, Coonrod appeal does not merit third trial

The Highland County Prosecutor's Office filed a brief with Ohio's Fourth District Court of Appeals on Monday stating that Wesley Coonrod does not deserve a third trial because the trial court did not abuse its discretion when it dismissed a juror during deliberations and seated an alternate.
