Report: Gov. Kasich to appoint Dave Daniels as director of Department of Agriculture

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich has appointed Ohio 17th District Sen. Dave Daniels as director of the Department of Agriculture.
Daniels did not immediately return called placed by The Highland County Press seeking comment.
The Dispatch stated that according to two unnamed sources that Kasich had made the appointment. The Columbus newspaper also was unable to reach Daniels. The governor's office has declined to comment on the appointment, stating that something would be released later this week.
"The Greenfield Republican, currently chairman of the Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee, would succeed state veterinarian Tony Forshey, who became interim director on Nov. 15 when James J. Zehringer left to become director of the Department of Natural Resources," according to The Dispatch.

[[In-content Ad]]Daniels began his political career as a member of the Greenfield City Council. He then was elected as mayor of Greenfield, before going on to be a Highland County commissioner and a representative for Ohio's 86th House District. He was elected to the Senate in 2010.
According to his campaign biography, Daniels "learned the value of family and hard work on his family’s 500-acre farm. As a youth, (Daniels) participated in 4-H, FFA, and Boy Scouts where he earned the Eagle Scout and God and Country Awards."
He is a 1975 graduate of McClain High School, and he also Laurel Oaks Career Development Center where he was enrolled in the Farm Management Program. After high school, he assisted his father and uncle in running the family farm.
