The Ohio Valley Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council is actively seeking projects where they can be of assistance to organizations within their service area, which includes Adams, Brown, Highland, Fayette, Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton Counties.

The streets of Hillsboro were crawling with costumed trick-or-treaters of all ages Thursday night, during the annual Boofest celebration.
 The event was sponsored by Buckeye Country 105.5 FM and the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association.

The four candidates for the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education each say they are seeking a position on the board to help make a positive difference in the lives of area students, and to create a better district for the people of the community. There are two open spots on the board for candidates Terry Britton, Marilyn Hiestand, Michael Salyer and Jerry Walker. Incumbent board members Ken Shull and Laura Bagshaw chose not to run for another four-year term on the board.

Herman Cain has jumped to the front of the line among GOP presidential contenders with 28 percent support among Ohio Republicans. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 23 percent, while Texas Gov. Rick Perry is almost at the bottom of the pile with 4 percent. Cain leads a three-man race with 40 percent, followed by Romney at 33 percent and Perry at 10 percent.

SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) will be holding a radio-a-thon on Nov. 1 to raise funds for for the 2012 KAMP Dovetail.

Rick C. O’Dell, financial adviser, was recently named a member of the 2012 Executive Council. Membership is based mainly on assets under management, education, credentials and fiscal year production. Re-qualification is required annually.
