COLUMBUS— Southern State Community College will receive more than $1 million toward campus renovations, with the passage of House Bill 482.
State Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) announced Thursday that the Ohio House of Representatives today passed HB 482, the capital budget bill along with Senate Concurrent Resolution 19, encouraging the Federal Aviation Administration to select Ohio as a site for Unmanned Aerial Systems testing.

The capital budget bill includes funding for multiple projects across the state that will ensure Ohio’s current resources are well-maintain, while making prioritized investments in Ohio’s future. Among these is a $90 million investment for upgrades to law enforcement communications, including instant voice and data upgrades, $300 million investment for local communities’ infrastructure projects, and $4 million investment for Ohio’s universities.

Highland County will directly benefit from the passage of H.B. 482. The capital budget appropriated $1,050,000 to be invested in Southern State Community College. These funds will be used for central campus exterior renovations.

“Improving education in Ohio is crucial to the success of the state, and has been a high priority for House Republicans,” said Rosenberger. “I am very pleased to find that Southern State Community College will be receiving funding to improve its facilities, enabling it to maintain its status as a resource for students in Highland County.”

House Bill 482 prioritizes investments to ensure a strong infrastructure, necessary to keeping and creating jobs in Ohio.

S.C.R. 19 urges the Federal Aviation Administration to select Ohio as a site for testing the integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems in the National Airspace System.

“Ohio has historically been in the forefront of aerospace technology,” said Rosenberger. “Being selected as a testing site would enable us to utilize our existing infrastructure around the state; especially at the Wilmington Airpark. This developing industry has a large potential for job creation and economic growth; both of which Ohio would be happy to host.”

The F.A.A. must select sites for Unmanned Aerial Systems testing  as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 as part of a plan to integrate these  into the National Airspace System.
