WC Theatre to Present A.R. Gurney's 'The Dining Room'

Eighteen scenes of family life ranging from the comic to the serious are set in a central room in A.R. Gurney's "humorous and compassionate" play "The Dining Room," which Wilmington College Theatre will present Feb. 25, 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

Greenfield History Club meets, discusses Valentine's Day holiday

The Greenfield History Club, celebrating its 86th year, met February 13th at the home of Kathleen McMullen. Following holiday-inspired refreshments, the meeting opened with members and guests reading the club's collect, written by Ferne Benner. Kaye York-Longworth, president, relayed greetings from members currently in Florida, Dayton, and Kazakhstan.

All Highland County schools are closed Tuesday after the Presidents Day snowstorm. Many secondary roads remained snow covered early Tuesday morning.

Buford Farmers Institute to be held. Feb. 26

It's that time of year in February when people are looking for something to do to pass the winter months and avoid all the snow we are having. Come on out to the friendly town of Buford. Some of you may ask where Buford is and what the Farmers Institute is. The Buford Farmers Institute originated in 1904. For many years, the farmers and their families would gather at the annual event. They would share ideas and present updated materials on rural farming. Back in those years the institute would last two or three days.

Several area businesses remained closed or closed early on Presidents Day after six to seven inches of new snow fell across much of Highland County. "Street conditions in the city of Hillsboro are very slick and hazardous. Snow is falling at a rate difficult for street crews to keep up with," the Hillsboro Police Department said.

Hillsboro Police Department shares tips for staying safe during winter storms

Street conditions in the City of Hillsboro are very slick and hazardous. Snow is falling at a rate difficult for street crews to keep up with. Some of the larger hills are difficult for most vehicles. The weather forecast indicates continuing snow throughout the rest of the day with a storm warning until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16. It is strongly recommended that anyone who doesn't need to be out should remain off the streets and roadways if possible. Below are some hazardous weather reminders.

Hillsboro Rotary Club announces Polio Awareness Campaign

For 20 years, Rotary Clubs have remained determined to do whatever is necessary to achieve a world free of the crippling disease polio. Recognizing this commitment – as well as Rotary's important role as a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication initiative – the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently awarded Rotary a $250 million challenge grant, which Rotary will match with an additional $100 million.
