Conference addresses collaborative efforts in drug treatment

It takes a community to transition an offender with a drug abuse problem into being a productive member of society, according to local treatment experts. Drug treatment, counseling and job training are essential tools in make sure offenders are less likely to relapse into drug abuse, or reoffending in crimes. State and local agencies met Friday to discuss how their collaboration could help create a transition that addresses the problem, and how they can remove obstacles that would help create a stronger community.

Court rules in favor of Greenfield in civil suit brought by former law director

A judge has ruled in favor of a motion for summary judgment for the village of Greenfield and several former city leaders in a civil suit brought by Greenfield’s former law director that alleged “in concert with each other, and with malice of purpose, bad faith and in a wanton and reckless manner unlawfully conspired to terminate (the law director) from the office of law director.”

SSCC approves $14 million Mt. Orab expansion; option on donation of property in Adams County WATCH THE VIDEO

In a divided vote, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees approved a $3.25 million contract to purchase 63 acres to construct a $14 million Brown County campus and unanimously accepted an option for a donation agreement for 19 acres of property for an Adams County campus. However, the board moved forward to approve funding for the Brown County project, while Adams County is still under consideration.

Southern State eyes new campus locations

Southern State Community College has moved forward on plans to expand the college’s services by pursuing land acquisition in Adams and Brown counties. The college’s Board of Trustees approved two resolutions during their Nov. 2 regular meeting — to accept a donation of land in Adams County, and to approve a contract to purchase land in Brown County.

Court denies motion to sever in corrupt activities case

Judge Rocky Coss denied a defendant's motion to sever in an engaging in a pattern of corrupt activities case and said that a new attorney will have to be appointed for a co-defendant in the case because the number of defendants indicted has exhausted the local defense attorney pool.
