The Wilmington area will be losing more jobs, according to a report in the Dayton Business Journal. Fortis Plastics LLC will close its Wilmington facility and lay off 119 workers, the Journal reported.

The bill establishes texting-while-driving as a serious traffic violation for commercial drivers, excludes certain components from the prohibited length dimensions of specified types of vehicles, revises the law governing self-sufficiency contracts established under the Ohio Works First program.

A motion to suppress items discovered during a K-9 unit search of a vehicle during a traffic stop was overruled Thursday in Highland County Common Pleas Court. During the search of the vehicle, officers found heroin and a loaded handgun.

Hillsboro Safety and Service Director Richard Giroux and Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings presented Hillsboro City Council's finance committee with a balanced budget Wednesday evening.

  "You have a balanced budget presented to you tonight," Giroux said to the committee. "The budget is, of course, a draft subject to additional adjustment before council approves it as a final document." 

According to the proposed budget, the "total amount available plus balances" is $5,105,321.35. The total amount of appropriations are $5,101,570, resulting in an ending balance of $3,751.35.

A Greenfield man was arrested Wednesday after he was allegedly found with a "mobile meth lab" in a bottle in his jacket pocket, while holding a 3-year-old child. 

According to Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, at 10:18 a.m. a police officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of South Washington Street in Greenfield for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Beginning in early February, courts, judges or clerks required by the Ohio Revised Code to publish public notices multiple times in a newspaper will be able to turn to a free statewide website as an alternative.

The Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities elected officers Tuesday, during their regular monthly meeting held at Hills and Dales Training Center.
