Highland County Commissioners Tom Horst, (Lynchburg '63), Shane Wilkin (L-C '88) and Jeremy Shaffer (LC '00) swore in recently elected Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education members Mrs. Beverly Wilkin, Mr. Chad McConnaughey and Mr. Brad Hess at the board's January organizational meeting.

A Greenfield man was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday after he threatened to shoot a woman in a Greenfield parking lot if she did not give him all her money. He escaped the incident with $30 and a pack of cigarettes.

Butler Township (Montgomery County) trustees and the fiscal officer owe $21,776 for having taxpayers pick up the tab for their share of the state pension fund, as issued in a 2009-2010 audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

The finance committee of the Hillsboro City Council and the new Hillsboro administration will be holding weekly meetings until they are able to cut more than half a million dollars from the 2012 budget.
  The committee met Wednesday in council chambers to discuss the proposed budget and to discuss the application for funding for a city performance audit.

Hillsboro City Council member Pete Pence will hold a kickoff party Thursday, Jan. 12 to officially start his campaign for the new 91st Ohio House District seat.
 Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland is scheduled to attend the event, which will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge, at 451 Danville Pike.

Greenfield Village Council has appointed former council member William Redenbaugh to fill a council vacancy, after only two people ran for three open seats on council. Redenbaugh did not run for re-election in 2011 after serving one term on council. His time in office had ended on Dec. 31.

Highland County will be seeing a lot of Ohio Second District Rep. Jean Schmidt. That's the promise from the Loveland Republican and the first woman elected to represent southern Ohio in Congress.

All Highland County public schools opened the new year on a two-hour delay this morning, after Monday's snow and ice made some area roadways a bit hazardous. Hillsboro City Schools, Greenfield Exempted Village Schools, Fairfield Local Schools, Bright Local Schools and Lynchburg-Clay Local all are operating on a two-hour delay Tuesday, Jan. 3.
