Hunters killed an additional 16,766 deer, including 267 in Highland County, during the extra weekend of gun hunting, December 17-18, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Many Hillsboro residents experienced power and cable outages Tuesday afternoon when a delivery truck allegedly backed into an electric pole, causing a transformer to explode, according to reports.

According to the Hillsboro Police Department, just before 4 p.m. Tuesday the department received a call reporting that a Dell computer delivery truck, in the area of Clark Family Dentistry in the 600 block of South High Street in Hillsboro, had backed into a pole. The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle to examine the damage, and then left.

Highland County employees will be getting a bonus at the end of 2011, in a move the board of commissioners said is to keep compensation equal among the employees.
  According to an email from the Highland County Board of Commissioners office to department heads, the county will be "giving the employees a year-end bonus, as they have gone without any wage increase for going on four years."

The commission upheld an opinion issued in 2010. In that opinion, the commission concluded that, although she had been hired by a previous police chief, the current police chief of the Village of Georgetown, would be prohibited from increasing his wife’s work hours at the village police department since that would alter the terms and conditions of his wife’s employment and secure a benefit for her.

Based on the foregoing findings of fact and conclusion of law, the Board was warranted in terminating Superintendent Biggert.
